Zuni & Hopi Winter 2015

Visiting the Zuni and Hopi Reservations in NM and AZ is one of the highlights of the year. We typically sponsor summer events in the villages that consist of activities for the kids, teenagers and adults, as well as providing food certificates and other necessary items for the elderly. Our winter trips are designed to give men an opportunity to do smaller construction projects and distribute much needed supplies for the cold winters.

During our recent trip we gave over $1,500 worth of food certificates, many warm king-size blankets, emergency blankets and solar lights to the elderly in Zuni and in Hopi. As well we did repairs on a community buidling in Hotevilla. These repairs included a ceiling repair, drainage for rain and snow, a new insulated pipe for the wood burning heater and repairing a heater in the main meeting room.

Upcoming trip to Hopi and Zuni

November 30 - December 4, 2015 we will be going to the Hopi and Zuni Reservations in Arizona and New Mexico. Our plan is to distribute warm blankets, certificates for food, propane for cooking and heating as well as luminAID solar lights for those living in more rural areas. Hopi food certificates are purchased at the Kykotsmovi store, owned and operated by the Hopi people. In the Zuni Pueblo we purchase the certificates at the Halona Plaza.

Solar lights for Tibet

We were privileged to be able to distribute solar lights in Chengdu, China, as well as in Lhasa, the people living near the Tibet Glacier and Gyantse, Tibet. There is a very real need for solar lighting outside of the main cities. We are planning another trip with many more lights during the first half of 2016.

I want to thank Secur solar flashlights as well as everyone who helped make this possible! Also a special thanks to David and Anna Marie Valadez, Daniel Ceballos and our Tibetan guide for being a great team!

Summer in Zuni and Hopi

Our trip to the Zuni and Hopi Reservations was outstanding! We joined the Zuni tribe with an event that included balloon animals, face painting, giant bouncers, slide and bungee run for the kids and bingo for the adults. Also represented were the Zuni Fire Department and a food booth for Zuni Youth raising funds for a trip to Washington DC. We also helped sponsor their trip.

While in Hopi we reconnected with friends and did an impromptu event in the village of Shungopavi on Second Mesa.

We distributed almost $1,000 of food certificates for the elderly (Adopt an Elder) and families as well as hand made quilts and toys for the kids.

Zuni Pueblo & Hopi Reservation

A team of 30 will be going to the Zuni and Hopi Reservations in New Mexico and Arizona on Monday, June 29 through Friday, July 3. We are joining the Zuni with a special event by providing giant inflatable jumpers, obstacle course, slide, bungee run, along with games, balloon animals, face painting and crafts. Plus, there'll be bingo for the adults! We will also be speaking to some of the youth about the dangers and alternatives to drug use.
The team will then be on Hopi as we visit and provide for our elderly friends. Your generous donations are making this possible! Thank you!

LifeStraws for China and Tibet

April 2015

We distributed many Lifestraw water purifiers (Personal and Go) as well as waterproof crank and photo cell flashlights during our recent trip to China and Tibet. These useful items (pictured in the slideshow) were distributed in Chengdu, China and to families living in and outside the Lhasa, Tibet area. They were also distributed to Tibetans living in the remote areas around Mt. Everest.

Travel within Tibet is restricted and must be done through a Chinese tour company who provides the required Tibet entry forms as well as a tour guide.

Blankets and More

November, 2014

Our recent trip, November 10-15, 2014, was a great success. Here's a very brief itinerary:

We first visited Chaco Canyon in New Mexico, a very special place for the Pueblo tribes of the Southwest.
In the Pueblo of Zuni, NM, we distributed quality blankets to many of the elderly and then bought a truck load of fire wood for Thelma (pictured below, top right).
We brought 2 room heaters to John & Thelma, a special family in Window Rock, AZ, the capital of the Navajo Nation (bottom left).
In Hopi, AZ we distributed blankets to the veterans in the village of Shungopavi and to people in other villages. We also gave food certificates to elderly Hopi, some with very challenging needs. We are planning to purchase and install a larger heater in Uberta's home in Hotevilla.
Throughout our travels we encouraged and blessed many others in various ways.

Kwakw’ha (Hopi for “thank you”) to everyone who assisted with funds and resources! It was only possible through your generous giving.
