Hopi Halloween

11/3/2018

We had a great team of 16 people and a great week on the Hopi Reservation, Monday, October 29 - Friday, November 2. Here's a brief report...

Tuesday - A halloween party in Polacca on 1st Mesa with at least 300 kids and adults.

Wednesday - We joined the Hopi tribe with a Halloween event in the Tribal offices (where the Tribal Chairman, Timothy Nuvangyaoma, came as Miss Hopi '54!) At least 300 children were in attendance!
We then joined 1st Mesa Day School in their Halloween celebration. I also had a very special meeting with the Hopi Chairman, grateful for the opportunity.

Thursday - We went to Moenkopi, near Tuba City on Navajo land, for a fun time with the children in the upper village.

We were able to bless and encourage the elderly as well with financial gifts and gift certificates from the Kykotsmovi store. Thank you to everyone who partnered with us in blessing the Hopi people of Northern Arizona.

And a very special thank you to our team for their sacrifice!

China and India

PictureLifeStraw Community High-Volume Water Purifier
We experienced an incredible journey to China and India distributing personal solar lights and water filters to Qinghai, China and India.
  • Photos 6-11 are Tibetans living in the Qinghai Province receiving LuminAID solar lights and LifeStraw water filters. People living in this area suffer from hepatic hydatidosis, a parasitic disease, and the LifeStraws will provide clean drinking water. We are planning to bring larger LifeStraw units (right) to help provide clean drinking water. Click here to see how it works.
  • Photos 20-27 (The last 8 photos) are of Tibetan nomads receiving solar lights and water filters.
THANK YOU for your faithful partnership! This is absolutely impossible if it were not for your generous help! We also express our appreciation to LuminAID (Solar lights) and Eartheasy (LifeStraws) for their generous assistance. Please click here to contact us for a more detailed report.

A special thank you to Yaseer and Monique Handall for all they and their teams have done for the Hopi people.

Solar lights for China (Tibet Autonomous Region)

4/21/2017

During our recent trip (April 3-13, 2017), many personal solar lights (Solight and Secur) were given to people in Lhasa, the Karo La Glacier and farmers in Gyantse and more. We also provided much needed funds for the school for blind children and the food program for Moru Temple in Lhasa where 2,200 traditional Buddhists were on a 45-day prayer.

Thank you Joe, Anna Marie and Nichole for being great team members and able to navigate through very sensitive situations. Thank you also to everyone who made it possible to bless the people living in Tibet.

John C. Claw, Jr., creator of the Great Navajo Nation Seal, passes on at age 82. As a dear friend whom I have known for many years, it was my privilege to have had a part in the memorial service held in Window Rock, capital of the Navajo Nation. Below is an article by the Navajo tribe about John.  -- Jack

The Navajo Nation lost a historical figure in the passing of John Claw, Jr., creator of the iconic Navajo Nation Seal. The Office of the Navajo Nation President and Vice President is deeply saddened to hear of Claw’s passing as his contribution to the Nation’s identity is unequivocal. Read more...

Personal solar lights for Hopi

2/5/2017

Our trip to the Hopi villages with personal solar lights was a great success!

We were amazed at the numbers of people living without electricity in large areas of the Hopi Reservation. Many homes still use toxic kerosene lanterns as well as propane lamps. Lightweight and lasting up to 12 hours on a single charge, these solar lights are a safe way to bring light to the Hopi and other Native Americans living in remote areas of the southwest.

We distributed over 300 personal solar lights (Solight-Design.com) donated by the accounting firm Dixon Hughes Goodman (dhgllp.com). The villages we focused on were the traditional villages of Lower Moenkopi, Hotevilla and Old Oraibi (Third Mesa); Mishongnovi (Second Mesa village); Walpi (First Mesa village).

Lights were distributed to many homes and Kivas, the religious and social centers for the Hopi. I wish I could express the joy we saw in their faces as the lights lit up their rooms.

This is the first of many solar light journeys. I want to thank our team and everyone who gave to help make this possible. You blessed a lot of special people!

Zuni and Hopi Winter 2016

12/5/2016

THANK YOU for all your help in making this trip a (snowy :-) success! Our team of 13 men were able to distribute many warm blankets to Zuni, Navajo and Hopi families! We also gave food certificates from the Halona store in the Zuni Pueblo and the Kykotsmovi store in Hopi. The certificates and financial help totaled over $1,600. We definitely warmed the hearts of many!

Comment from a Zuni tribe staff member: "The families expressed their sincere appreciation. One woman wanted you to know the blanket will keep her warm during her cancer treatment."
