We've distributed a large quantity of solar lights from LuminAID over the last few years!! They've been a great partner and have given us a great price for the lights through our non-profit! Check out their website at https://luminaid.com. Click here to view a short video showing a few of the areas we have brought light. The Piki House project in the Jemez Pueblo is nearing completion! Teamwork: we've raised the money and they've provided all the labor. This building will be used to preserve the art of making piki bread and traditional pottery making. The Jemez School will also use it in their Cultural Preservation classes.
Bertha Kinale
Bertha, a member of the Coyote Clan, was the first person we met on the Hopi Reservation 27 years ago. She lives in Walpi and is now 95 years old! We sent her a special delivery of essential (and not so essential :-) items. Her daughter, Connie, wrote back saying she was very happy about thinking of her this way! For many years she would always be in Sichomovi and Walpi on First Mesa selling her pottery (sample below).
Join us with our Hopi Library Project. Due to Covid limitations and restrictions, the Hopi tribe is eliminating parts of the Library. We’ve been very involved with Dinah and the mobile library and will continue to help.
Needed are: minor construction, library shelves, equipment to go virtual, etc. Click here to donate. Your entire gift will go to the RestoringTouch Hopi Library Project. Thank you! Click here to watch a video (no sound) Over $3,500 of food and propane certificates were given for Hopi elders and needy through our Adopt an Elder program.
During our brief visit to Hopi we purchased 100 certificates for propane and 20 $75 certificates for food at the Kykotsmovi store, managed by Tommy and Julie Canyon. We gave Julie 50 propane certificates to hand out as she sees needy families coming into the store. We also met with Dinah, who operates the Hopi mobile library and new library facility. We gave Dinah most of the food certificates and 40 propane certificates to deliver to elderly who are not always remembered. We are also making plans on helping her develop the Hopi library. Even though the villages were closed due to Covid, they did allow us to enter twice! We also personally met with Hopi families and blessed them! All this was possible because of YOU, our faithful partners! Thank you! Jack Click here for the current update Because of the generous gifts of our partners, a special family in the Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico is able to build a much needed piki house. Many women have a piki stone and make their own piki but the younger women need to be taught this important tradition. (See short video below) The Piki house will have two rooms. One room will be dedicated to preserving old piki stones and artifacts as well as a place to demonstrate traditional pottery making. The other room will be used to teach and make piki bread. The Jemez school is very excited about this project, they’ll be using it in their cultural preservation classes. This is a dream come true for of one of the village matriarchs. Thank you again for your help!!!
