Because of the generous gifts of our partners, a special family in the Jemez Pueblo in New Mexico is able to build a much needed piki house. Many women have a piki stone and make their own piki but the younger women need to be taught this important tradition. (See short video below)
The Piki house will have two rooms. One room will be dedicated to preserving old piki stones and artifacts as well as a place to demonstrate traditional pottery making. The other room will be used to teach and make piki bread.
The Jemez school is very excited about this project, they’ll be using it in their cultural preservation classes.
This is a dream come true for of one of the village matriarchs. Thank you again for your help!!!
